Leadership Evanston

Leadership Evanston's mission is to fill the community with committed leaders who are skilled at bringing people together to get things done.  Our programs encourage and develop leadership potential and community engagement in individuals living or working in Evanston.

Founded in 1991 by the Evanston Community Foundation, Leadership Evanston has a rich history of developing leaders.  Our programs:

  • Train participants in community leadership skills,
  • Broaden participants’ understanding of Evanston and the issues it faces, and
  • Create opportunities for networking.

Leadership Evanston has five programs:

  • The Signature Program is a ten-month skills-based experience that trains people in community leadership skills, broadens their understanding of Evanston and the issues it faces, and creates opportunities for participants to build a network of community colleagues.

  • Snapshot Evanston is a half- or full-day session that offers an overview of how Evanston is organized and how it works.  Snapshot Evanston includes a popular historical neighborhood bus tour that brings different facets of the community to life.  Snapshot Evanston is easily customized to various community groups’ needs and interests.

  • Senior Leadership is our newest program. Funded in part by the Retirement Research Foundation, the program leads retired and semi-retired participants through ten-week skills-based and content-rich training sessions and connects them to meaningful community engagement.

  • Public Service Challenge is a collaborative workshop series held every two years to encourage Evanstonians to run for local public office and to become involved in the community.

  • Alumni offers a variety of programs and publications to keep Leadership Evanston alumni informed and engaged

Leadership Evanston is one of nearly 1,000 community leadership development programs in the United States and other countries, many of which are part of the Community Leadership Association.  Visit our news page for the latest on Leadership Evanston.
